After a Hurricane
  • Wait for officials to say it is safe before going back home.
  • Discard any refrigerated food that you suspect has spoiled.
  • Stay out of impacted areas; do not sightsee.
  • Do not operate charcoal grills, propane camping stoves or generators indoors.
  • Do not drive or walk through standing water.
  • Stay away from downed power lines.
  • When cleaning heavy debris, work with a partner. Make sure that you have
    proper training before using equipment, such as chainsaws.
  • Wear appropriate protective equipment including gloves, goggles, and boots.
  • Clean and disinfect everything that got wet.
  • Eat healthy food and get enough sleep to help you deal with stress.
