Tropical Storm Ida Update

New Orleans, LA – The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority – East (FPA) continues to monitor Tropical Storm Ida. Ida is expected to be a dangerous major hurricane when it reaches the northern Gulf Coast on Sunday with a risk of life-threatening storm surge inundation and potentially devastating wind damage. Flood Protection Authority – East Prepares for Tropical Depression Nine

New Orleans, LA – In preparation for a potential storm entering the Gulf of Mexico, leadership at the Flood Protection Authority – East (FPA) is closing several gates within the flood protection system. A total of 21 gates will be closed today, August 26th. Today’s closures will not impact roads, railways, or businesses. New Orleans, LA – On Friday, June 25th, around 3 PM, Orleans Levee District police reported a hole in the levee near shelter No. 1. The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (FPA) engineering team immediately mobilized to the site and observed a sink hole roughly 5 feet in diameter at the surface and 10 feet deep.
